Helvellyn – The yoga class at 3,117 ft

Sunday 21st July - The UK’s first Yoga class at over 3,000 ft. (we think)

Are you interested in being part of something that we don’t think has been done before?

This 60-minute SO Flow level yoga class will take place on the summit of Helvellyn, a mountain in the Lake District.

This is an event that we would like to repeat in the future and this is very much a first, a test. It may not work, the weather may be awful, it may just prove to be a very hilly walk with exceptionally windy yoga at the top, but one thing is for certain it will be different, and we are quite sure that it will be a lot fun.

It will start after a hike of to the top of the mountain. This class is not for the faint hearted! Ideally you will have some experience in hill and mountain walking. The walk up is NOT via any of the very challenging routes like Striding edge. It is steep though. Its a bit like climbing the last steep bit of Rivington Pike over 20 times in a row. The route up is approximately 2.5 miles and you will climb almost the full 3,000 feet (960m) in that time, hence the need for participants to be fit and able.

A kit list will be circulated nearer the time on WhatsApp.

Approximate Itinerary:

  • 7:45am Meet Studio One Leyland. If you live in the lakes meet us at the car park.

  • 8am Set off (car sharing)

  • 9:30am Arrive Wythburn Car Park (Grid Ref NY 325 136)

  • 9:45am Walk Starts

  • 11/11:30am Class Starts

  • 2pm Back at Car park

  • 4pm Arrive back probably via the pub

Sorry. No dogs on this one, unless you bring a non-practicing friend to look after them. Juno is obviously already very disappointed!

The yoga class and walk will be led by our very own David Cowburn; yoga teacher, trail runner and Lakeland 100 finalist!
