This is an event that we would like to repeat in the future and this is very much a first, a test. It may not work, the weather may be awful, it may just prove to be a very hilly walk with exceptionally windy yoga at the top, but one thing is for certain it will be different, and we are quite sure that it will be a lot fun.Read More
Kim has been teaching at Studio One for nearly 5 years and she is loved by many! Delivering our over 60’s classes, mum and baby and more recently Pilates and sound bath sessions she has found her passion and she excels. She totally gets that a yoga studio is ALL about the students…so much so she took her class SKYDIVING last week!!Read More
There are many current and past sports people who give a yoga a leg up, from Ryan Giggs prolonging his football career to Tiger Woods saying meditation helps him find focus (and hey he just won the Masters!). But us yogis know that it doesn’t really need it; we already know how awesome it is!!Read More
It was in 2015 that the ‘BOYS OF YOGA’ hit Instagram and became the new face of yoga for men! Don’t get me wrong, what Michael James Wong created back then is inspiring and uplifting and their website is full of some awesome content for all yoga students, however I’m also conscious that the ‘boys of yoga’ don’t represent the masses.Read More
I think I'm really lucky to work in a place like this; it's relaxed, enjoyable, full of positivity and I think that's down to the staff and all of our students. That's probably the best part of working at the studio – the people! I think this is really important, especially for people who are just starting yoga as you want your first experience to be a good one!Read More
Five years ago I was laughed out of the bank when I asked for a business loan to create Studio One; I cried, I got mad but I wasn’t going to let it stop me. I gathered all of my savings, I maxed out my credit card and I called in every favour I could to get the job done. Luckily, I also have an awesome family who broke their backs to ensure we opened on time.
The renovation of the Standish studio was HUGE; we removed 4000 bricks from the building, we put up steel, we built a suspended floor (I’m totally playing fast and loose with the word ‘we’; I am about as useful as a chocolate fireguard)! The job took two months and we had to do a lot of it at nights so we could all work our day jobs but alas we made it!Read More
OK so we know that we feel better after going to yoga, we know that we should roll out our mat at home and we’ll magically solve all of life’s stresses but hey….we’re realistic; we got caught up at work, the traffic was bad, the kids needed feeding! Trust me, there’s a myriad of reasons to put off going to class (we’ve heard them all) so we’ve created a 5-step guide to practising some element of yoga every day…Read More
After 6 years of teaching in schools, colleges and academies we have seen first hand just how good yoga is for children of all ages. We find that the younger classes love creating shapes, moving their bodies and (honestly) finding stillness! (we know, we know…your 5 year old doesn’t sit still; trust me, after 30 minutes of yoga they can rock a savasana like the best of us). It gives children a chance to see that yoga is a practice of breath, body and mind and they will fully embrace the opportunity to breathe like a LION at any given moment, little do they know it’s great for stress!Read More
Some of our longest serving students are practicing in the same leggings and t-shirts they wore back in 2010 when Michelle was teaching out of community centres and church halls, hell even Michelle is wearing the same ones!
Our studios provide mats and equipment for classes so there’s no need to ever buy if you don’t want to. We find our students only start collecting bits of equipment after about 12 months and that’s fab!Read More
Her more recent addition….Meditation for Melters is just what we need over here! While there are many meanings for ‘MELTER’ here it’s Irish slang for ‘a lot on your mind’ AND for busy minds, beginners, those who are curious, cultivating creativity, recovering, or ever thought – ‘I can’t meditate’, but want to try. THIS is the session for you!Read More
“After more than a decade of teaching vinyasa yoga in many different settings all over the world, I’ve found that combining power, precision, and mindfulness creates the most efficient, balanced yoga class with maximum impact. My approach is challenging and sweaty without producing burnout. It’s also exacting, helping you progress in your poses, without being stagnant or tedious. My classes encourage one-pointed focus and awareness of what’s going on internally.”Read More
“I’ve been practicing yoga off and on for around 15 years, from home DVD to a variety of different classes then having found Studio One last summer, I can honestly say it’s the best! There are such a variety of classes and teachers, all of whom are knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and fun – not a word you come across a lot in yoga! I do some running and, not getting any younger, have some problems with my knees – not anymore, the stretch and strengthening of yoga perfectly complements my running”.Read More
121 yoga tuition is a luxury, however at Studio One we look to make it affordable for everyone, so we structure our prices to reflect that. Think of it like going to have your hair cut…(bear with us!)...you can choose to have an appointment with a newly qualified hairdresser or with the senior stylist and you’ll pay differently based on experience. The same applies here…Read More
Studio One was opened in 2014 by Michelle Almond, a yoga teacher of 12 years who has taught everywhere! Michelle moved to Standish in 2008 and started teaching classes at Standish High School, Mossy Lea Village Hall and many more. Alongside this she was completing a PhD with the eventual aim of becoming a lecturer. However, over the years the classes grew and were in such high demand that she was outgrowing any community spaces available.Read More
We’re always working to create new things for our students and as such our timetable changes and adapts to bring you the BEST offering around with the best teachers employed to deliver them! When the workplace come to yoga!
We have lots of ‘groups’ of people coming to yoga together, friends from work, college and home but very few who take the time out during work hours as a team to make their workplace stand out!
This company are proving that team work really does make the dream work!Read More
Our yoga community is all about being inclusive and accepting of everybody which means we have cultivated a band of students who are not necessarily ‘typically yoga’!
So if you come to our studio, if you make friends with our students you’ll be sure to find a few exceptions to the yoga ‘rule’; our crazy Front of House team (Harriet), our beer monster of a student (Valerie) and a past teacher who simply can’t miss our nights out (Sarah)!Read More
I come from a super small family, but my parents made up for it with the most awesome, magical Christmases. I know most families have rituals and things they get the kids to do on the run up to the big day but my mum and dad were great at this; there were trails and maps and games to find our presents around the house, these got more elaborate every year and I’m quite sure it’s because my dad got a chance to legit be a child for a couple of days! It was so believable and awesome that my brother still believed in Santa when he went to High School, much to our amusement (sorry Michael).Read More
